Ironic Twist
seeking irony, because sarcasm clashes with my outfit

Plans for the weekend involve LDP tonight, trying to do too many things tomorrow night (people are having parties, FMHg are releasing a CD, Bliss is celebrating an anniversary), and taking a break from my social butterfly lifestyle on Sunday to row a boat out on a lake in rural Maryland.
Local band news: Fivefour played a show at Pianos on Monday, the same night as a private party involving one of my favorite TV shows, Entourage. They got to mingle with the cast and crew, including executive producer Mark Wahlberg. The report I got is that Adrian Grenier is really cute in person, as can be expected.
The Hard Tomorrows are making steady progress on their upcoming full-length debut. Mike writes: "the album is coming along, it should be ready by 3006, released by our disembodied heads to the critical acclaim of our cruel simian overlords."

I didn't go see Dolly Parton last night, so instead I listened to my recently acquired Best of Dolly Parton record, which I got at Crooked Beat on Saturday along with two Patsy Cline records. Listening to the album gave me just a bit of regret for not going to the show, but I really couldn't imagine paying $60 for a concert, and those aren't even the good seats. The cover looks almost like this, only with different fonts. It's strange seeing Ms. Parton look so young and pretty and natural, although I think she looks great now also, fake everything and all. The album first came out in 1975, so it's just 10 of her best early songs -- no filler like some of the later best of collections.
This cover of "I Will Always Love You" comes from a 2001 covers album called something like Old Songs About the Most Important Thing, on which the biggest Russian pop stars sing songs that range from popular Russian songs to "Livin' La Vida Loca" to "Dancing Queen" to "Blue Suede Shoes." It's a showy version of the song, closer to the Whitney Houston cover than the original.
Schitzo wants to know what 10 songs I've been digging lately. Here we go, in no particular order, with some songs I've probably mentioned in the past few weeks:
01/05: Taint and Bliss present INFAMY, 9:30 Club
01/10: Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton, 9:30 Club
01/19: Benjy Ferree, Meredith Bragg and the Terminals, Greenland, Black Cat 01/24: Hej Hej, Cafe Saint-Ex
